So many of you ladies and gents have been raving about my now wedding set since I got engaged. I can’t say I blame you – it’s utterly unique and stands out for sure! Many of us ladies are already familair with Morganite stones, but for those who haven’t heard of this beautiful gem or simply wanting to learn more about care and quality, keep reading!

MORGANITE FACTS

  • “Morganite is the pink to orange-pink variety of beryl, a mineral that includes emerald and aquamarine.” (Gem Encylopedia)
  • It is named after J.P Morgan and has the hardness of 7.5 to 8 compared to a diamond which is a 10.
  • Colour ranges from Orange to Peach and Dark Pink.
  • Size is a significant factor in getting a darker pink.

MORGANITE CARE

Since the Morganite has a lighter hardness, it merely means it collects oil easier than a diamond making it more suspectable to looking cloudy or dirty easier. Here are some easy steps that I use to ensure the quality and longevity of my Morganite

  • TAKE MORGANITE OFF WHEN WASHING (OILS FROM FINGERS AND HANDS WILL JUST CLOG THE PRONGS AND STONE AGAIN)
  • DON’T USE ABRASIVE JEWELLERY CLEANERS OR SOAPS AS THAT CAN CAUSE IRREVERSIBLE COLOUR AND crack TO THE STONE
  • USE A SOFT BRISTLE TOOTHBRUSH TO CLEAN THE STONE, SURROUNDING STONES AND BETWEEN THE PRONGS AND SETTING
  • USE A GENTLE CLEANSER (I USE DR.BRONNERS LIQUID SOAP DILUTED TO GET IT SHINY AND CLEAN)
  1. Take off ring and place in a cup filled with your soap and water.
  2. Allow the ring to sit in the water mixture for at least 5 minutes (depending on the last time you washed it could be less)
  3. Take your soft bristle toothbrush and with the ring still in the water mixture, start to GENTLY brush your stone, taking your time between the prongs (especially if you have surrounding stones) and around the setting.
  4. When you’ve thoroughly cleaned around you ring repeat the same process, but under running lukewarm water! (NEVER USE HOT WATER OR ICE COLD WATER!)
  5. Do not towel or paper dry your ring as that will leave residue on the stone and make it cloudy again.
  6. Air dry your ring, or use a fan or sway it back and forth gently to remove any water that could be trapped underneath your prongs, so there are no water stains.
  7. Admire your ring all day!

Now I prefer to clean my ring like this every weekend, however, sometimes things happen. Let’s say you forget, if you’re married like me you wear your band more than the ring itself (just to keep it safe and beautiful longer) I will go two or more weeks without washing it. However, remember it’s like not cleaning under your fingernails. Many bacterias and dirt gets trapped under those prongs and the settings you might want to wash it more often than not before you put it on your finger.

WHY MORGANITE?

In my opinion! I HATE DIAMONDS! Shocking I know – for this woman diamonds are not my best friend! My birthstone is an Emerald, and I have been in love with the rich dark green tone for years, my mom and sister however born in April birthstone is a Diamond. So I’ve been surrounded by clear crystal looking stones for years as well and hearing about blood diamonds. The abuse people, mostly children in countries, face just so people can admire a rock to me, is insane. Also, what is really beautiful about a clear non-colour stone? Honestly?! Rubies, Sapphires, Garnet, Citrine? Those are drop-dead gorgeous, but no one pays them any mind.

So I made it my personal mission to step out of the “norm” of wanting a ring that every woman had, and go for my dream of owning a PINK RING! (Which is my favourite colour too) So it was a beautiful deal for my fiancé and me significantly since Morganites and WAYYYYYYYYYY cheaper for a larger stone than diamonds are.

MY MORGANITE RING FACTS

  • MY RING SIZE IS 12 * 8 = 4 CARATS
  • MY STONE SHAPE IS A PRINCESS CUT OR SOLITARE
